IBB Launches Memoir, “A Journey in Service,” with High-Profile Attendees

Abuja – Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), officially launched his memoir, A Journey in Service, at a grand event held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. The occasion, which doubled as a fundraiser for the IBB Presidential Library Foundation, attracted an array of distinguished personalities from Nigeria and beyond.

The event was chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the special guest of honour. Former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered the keynote address, while former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo reviewed the book. Among the notable attendees were former Nigerian Presidents Muhammadu Buhari, Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan.

“A Journey in Service” offers an in-depth account of Babangida’s life, military career, and tenure as Nigeria’s military president from 1985 to 1993. It delves into key historical moments, including the controversial annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

In his remarks, Babangida expressed gratitude to the attendees and highlighted the importance of documenting history from a personal perspective. He acknowledged that while his administration made decisions with national interest in mind, some could have been handled differently.

The event also featured a fundraising session for the IBB Presidential Library Foundation, with business magnates Theophilus Danjuma and Abdul Samad Rabiu leading the contributions.

The launch of A Journey in Service adds a crucial perspective to Nigeria’s political history, offering insights into Babangida’s leadership and the challenges that shaped his era.
